Sonbhadra,
16 Nov (HS): A part of a stone quarry in this area collapsed, burying several
workers beneath the rubble, according to officials. The actual number of
workers buried is unknown, but Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjeev Kumar Gond, who
visited the site in Billi Markundi village in Sonbhadra district, believes
around a dozen labourers may be trapped beneath the wreckage.
According
to District Magistrate B N Singh, a wall within the Krishna Mines quarry
collapsed, trapping the workers.
According to Singh, some workmen were buried as a wall fell within the
quarry. The DM stated that teams from the NDRF and SDRF had left Mirzapur to
conduct rescue efforts at the spot. Gond, Uttar Pradesh's Minister of State for
Social Welfare and local MLA, paid a visit to the location alongside district
authorities.
Citing
information from on-site sources, minister stated that perhaps a dozen workers
might be trapped beneath the rubble. Gond noted that the precise number of
stranded personnel was still unknown. “The
district magistrate, superintendent of police, and other authorities are on the
scene, and relief efforts are beginning.
I'm also present, and every attempt is being done. The conditions under
which the mine operated will be studied,” he informed. The minister stated that
anybody found guilty will face severe consequences. We support the families of the victims. Gond
stated that ex-gratia compensation will be paid to those harmed by the tragedy. This is an extremely terrible occurrence, he
said.
