
Kyiv, 14 November (H.S.): Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone assault on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, overnight on Friday, causing significant damage to at least 11 buildings and injuring 12 people. The attack, which targeted nearly every district of the city, prompted a city-wide emergency response and led to widespread power outages.
The barrage began around 12:45 AM local time, with multiple explosions heard across the city between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM. Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, issued a stark warning during the attack, stating, Russians are striking residential buildings. Many high-rise buildings have been damaged throughout Kyiv.
Air defense systems were activated throughout the capital as authorities issued a nationwide air raid alert due to the threat of further missile strikes.
According to The Kyiv Independent, debris from a drone fell on a five-story residential building in the Dniprovskyi district. Fires were also reported in several other locations, including the 12th floor of another residential building, the 10th floor of a building in the Podilskyi district, and on the roof of a five-story building in the Solomianskyi district.
An additional building and a non-residential structure in the Podilskyi district were also engulfed in flames.Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that at least 11 multi-story buildings were damaged in the overnight assault.
The attacks also damaged a medical facility and an administrative building in the Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Of the 12 people injured across the city, five were hospitalized, including a pregnant woman.
The strikes also damaged electricity infrastructure, leading to power cuts in several districts. Furthermore, several cars caught fire in the Darnitskyi district during the drone attack.The surrounding Kyiv Oblast was also targeted, with Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reporting that a 55-year-old man suffered thermal burns in an attack on Bila Tserkva.
