
Delhi, 25 October (H.S.): Veteran actor Satish Shah, known for his impeccable comic timing and memorable performances across television and cinema, passed away on Friday at around 2:30 pm at Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital. He was 74.
According to reports, the actor had been battling kidney-related complications and had recently undergone a transplant.
With a career spanning over four decades, Satish Shah became a household name through his versatile roles that effortlessly bridged the gap between humor and emotion. He achieved cult status with his unforgettable performance in the 1983 satire ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, where his comic brilliance left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
His filmography boasts a wide range of hits including ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, and ‘Om Shanti Om’, reflecting his mastery across genres.
On television, his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult sitcom ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ remains one of the most iconic comic roles in Indian TV history. Earlier, he had also charmed audiences in the 1984 classic ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, which defined an era of Indian sitcoms.
