MUZAFFARPUR (BIHAR), Oct 21 (HS): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday launched his election campaign in Bihar, taking a sharp dig at RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, accusing him of having done “nothing for women” during his rule.
Speaking at his first rally in Minapur constituency of Muzaffarpur district, Nitish alleged that when Lalu was forced to step down following the fodder scam charges, he merely placed his wife Rabri Devi in the Chief Minister’s chair without any real concern for women’s empowerment.
The JD(U) leader, who is seeking a record fifth consecutive term, also said he had been disillusioned with the RJD after two short-lived alliances and would continue his association with the NDA.
Emphasizing his government’s focus on women’s upliftment, Nitish highlighted initiatives such as the creation of self-help groups and the recently launched Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, under which ₹10,000 has been transferred to the accounts of over one crore women beneficiaries.
“Our government has truly worked for women’s progress. The previous regime never took such steps,” he said, contrasting his tenure with that of his rival.
Nitish’s remarks mark the tone for the upcoming Bihar polls — centered around development, empowerment, and governance, as he seeks another term in office.
