Amravati, 17 Oct (HS): Tribals in Amravati’s Melghat
region have launched hunger strike in front of the District Collector’s office,
to protest bad condition of roads and delay in construction of a bridge on
Khandu River. Three villagers lost their lives, and many others sustained
serious injuries in the last few days.
Khandu River flowing between Khutida and Ektai
villages was overflowing during monsoon. Raoji Rona Bethekar, 10-year-old Nandlal Zelang and an Anganwadi workers were
swept away and died. Despite several assurances in the past bridge on the river
was not constructed, neither the roads repaired.
The tribals have demanded that the problems should
be solved immediately before the cominh Diwali Festival.
