Chennai, 17 October (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu BJP State President, Nainar Nagenthran has launched a sharp verbal offensive against the ruling DMK government, publicly alleging that several prominent DMK leaders, including a former minister, will face implication in the ongoing investigation into the tragic Karur stampede case.
Speaking at a recent political rally, Nagenthran challenged the official version of events presented by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in the State Assembly, unequivocally asserting that security lapses on the part of the government were directly responsible for the fatal incident.
The BJP leader specifically raised questions regarding the veracity of the Chief Minister's statement on security arrangements, expressing skepticism over the reported deployment of more than 600 police personnel at the Velusamypuram venue in Karur.
According to Nagenthran, the key political leader scheduled to appear was delayed significantly, and critically, the power supply was allegedly cut off precisely at the time of the arrival. He noted that while the Chief Minister has denied this power outage, ensuring security remains the paramount duty of the police and the administration.
In his broad critique of the administration, Nagenthran also addressed the grievances of conservancy workers, condemning the alleged actions of DMK Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, who he claimed threatened and drove away sanitation workers protesting for promised wage revisions and regularization.
He highlighted a grim statistic, stating that Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest number of deaths of sanitary workers while cleaning septic tanks in the country over the last four years, which he cited as evidence of the government's indifference.
Nagenthran’s statements form part of his statewide campaign, where he has declared that the countdown for DMK govt has begun ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The Chief Minister's office has previously provided a version of events for the stampede, which the BJP president is now directly disputing.
