Kolkata, 8 January (H.S.) -The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major gold smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Acting on a tip-off, BSF personnel apprehended a smuggler carrying gold biscuits and a coin worth ₹36,73,747. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of the 146th Battalion under the South Bengal Frontier on Tuesday.
According to BSF sources, the accused, identified as Naeem Sheikh, was attempting to cross the border into India through the Charbhadra area. His suspicious behavior and movement raised alarms among intelligence officials. Upon thorough inspection, three gold biscuits and one gold coin were found concealed in his clothing.
Following his arrest, the accused was handed over to the Jalanggi Police Station. The confiscated gold was subsequently submitted to Customs officials for further investigation.
South Bengal Frontier DIG N.K. Pandey stated, Smugglers are taking advantage of the winter fog to increase activities along the border. However, our vigilant jawans are actively foiling their plans through prompt actions. With the cooperation of local residents, we are striving to eliminate smuggling incidents in border areas.
