Jorhat (Assam), 08 January (HS): A team of Assam police trapped in Nagaland has been released. On Tuesday, a team of Assam Police going on an operation in Nagaland was held captive by Naga criminals, due to which there was an atmosphere of panic in the entire area.
According to the information received, a 16-member team of Assam Police including Police Officer in Charge of Teok Police Station Gangaram Phukan had reached Yachang C area of Nagaland to catch a gang involved in vehicle theft in Jorhat. Mistaking it to be the border of Assam, the police team mistakenly entered the border of Nagaland, due to which a dispute arose with the residents there and the police team was taken captive.
In this incident, an Assam Police Jawan Vidyut Dutta was injured when he was attacked by the criminals. He has been admitted to Aditya Hospital in Dibrugarh for treatment.
After this, a team led by Jorhat Additional Superintendent of Police Luna Sonowal reached the spot and released the police team safely. Jorhat District Superintendent of Police Shetang Mishra, reacting to the incident, said that as soon as he got information about it, he contacted Mokokchung Police of Nagaland and brought the police team back to Assam safely by controlling the situation. He said that talks will be held soon with the Nagaland government to resolve the border dispute between Assam and Nagaland.
