Guwahati, 22 January (HS): Employees of the Guwahati Metro District Commissioner's Office have launched a non-cooperation movement in protest against the inter-district transfer of a colleague, Gautam Bhuiyan, from Majuli to Jorhat.

The protest, organized by the Kamrup Metro District Committee of the All Assam District Administration Employees Union, deems Bhuiyan's transfer unjust and demands its immediate reversal.

Today, employees staged a sit-in protest at the main gate of the DC's office, voicing their dissent against the government's decision.

Jayanta Bhandar Kayastha, General Secretary of the Employees' Association said while talking to Hindusthan Samachar that inter-district transfers of DC office staff violate Assam's service policy. Furthermore, he highlighted that the transfer of any Association office-bearer is not permissible until a replacement is appointed, as per government guidelines and notifications.

Describing the transfer as unfortunate, Kayastha warned that a statewide non-cooperation movement could follow if the decision is not rescinded.

A formal request for revocation has already been submitted to the concerned authorities.
