New Delhi, 2 January (H.S.): The Supreme Court has raised questions on Punjab Government's attitude towards farmers' agitation.
A bench headed by Justice Suryakant said that the state government's attitude towards the agitation is not appropriate. The court asked the state government why it is unable to explain to farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal that his hunger strike and agitation will continue even after he goes to the hospital. The next hearing of the case will be on January 7.
During the hearing, the court asked the Punjab government whether it has told the farmers that the Supreme Court has constituted a committee. The Supreme Court objected to the statement of the farmer leaders and said that the statements of some farmer leaders are objectionable.
They should be given a message that this is not right. The court said that deliberate efforts are being made to worsen the situation.
Our instruction was not that he should break his hunger strike. Then the Punjab government demanded some time. The Punjab government said that our officers are present there and they are trying to handle the situation.
Then the court postponed the hearing till January 7 and directed the Punjab government to file a fresh status report.
