New Delhi, 2 January (H.S.): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called upon DRDO to prepare products in accordance with the needs of changing times. He praised DRDO's role in developing the country's indigenous capabilities by equipping the armed forces with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment and strengthening the defense sector through collaboration with the private sector. Rajnath Singh also honoured the design team of long-range hypersonic anti-ship missile.

On the 67th Foundation Day of DRDO on Thursday, Rajnath Singh visited DRDO Headquarters in New Delhi and said that DRDO will play an important role in achieving the set goals when 2025 was declared as the 'Year of Reforms'. The Defense Minister also interacted with senior scientists and officials. He urged the scientists to keep an eye on the products and processes of advanced countries and develop specific technologies with the aim of making DRDO one of the strongest R&D organisations in the world. He said that each laboratory of DRDO should identify 2-3 important projects and complete them by 2025.

He said that by the next foundation year, we should have 100 such projects which have been completed.

He urged to identify more such areas which can increase the participation of the private sector. The Defense Minister urged DRDO to explore the possibility of involving startups in its R&D efforts. This will promote valuable exchange of ideas and provide an opportunity to the Indian defense sector to come up with innovative technologies in accordance with the changing times.

Rajnath Singh said that DRDO can bring a big change in the lives of citizens by focusing on dual technology areas along with the defense sector.

During the meeting, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, Dr. Sameer V. Kamat said that till date, DRDO has signed 256 licensing agreements with Indian industries.

The DRDO Chairman said that more than 19 development co-production partners and production agencies were selected for mission mode projects last year. DRDO test facilities have been opened to industries and more than 18,000 tests have been conducted for private industries and DPSUs in the last three years, out of which more than 5,000 tests were conducted in 2024.
