Delhi, 2 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue his annual tradition of offering a 'chadar' at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the occasion of the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
This year, he will hand over the ceremonial cloth to Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who will present it at the dargah on Modi's behalf on January 4. This gesture by the Prime Minister holds great significance as it is a symbol of his devotion and respect to the revered shrine. This tradition started in 2010 and this year will mark the 11th time that Modi has participated in it since assuming office.
This comes after a recent court ruling that declared the Ajmer Sharif Dargah as Lord Shiva's temple, adding to its spiritual significance. The 'chadar' is placed over the shrine (Mazar-e-Akdas) of Khwaja Garib Nawaz and is considered a form of worship during the Urs to seek blessings. Last year, the 'chadar' was presented by then Union Minister Smriti Irani and BJP minority wing chief Jamal Siddiqui, on behalf of the Prime Minister, along with a delegation representing the Muslim community.
This tradition showcases India's diversity and unity in its religious beliefs, as well as the Prime Minister's commitment to upholding this spirit.
