New Delhi, 4 January (H.S.): Former Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has emphasized the importance of journalism for public interest rather than public interest itself. He believes that true and good journalism is one that keeps the common people informed in the interest of the nation. However, he also urges caution in covering topics that may damage the image of the country. Thakur expressed these views while launching the new expansion plan for the Hindi fortnightly magazine Yugvarta. He expects journalism to continue playing a crucial role in spreading national consciousness and strengthening national unity.

Speaking at the event, Thakur highlighted India's progress in the last decade, becoming the fifth largest economy in the world and on track to become the third largest. He also pointed out attempts by some media outlets to show India in a negative light through infodemic. Thakur believes that certain elements within the media ecosystem, influenced by Congress-Communist ideologies, are prioritizing opposition to Modi over national interest.

In such a scenario, it becomes imperative for unbiased magazines like Yugvarta and honest journalists to protect and promote the country's values and traditions.

Renowned Hindi journalist Ram Bahadur Rai also stressed on the importance of unbiased journalism in today's times. He mentioned that while covering political news, reporters should remain objective and refrain from taking sides.
