Washington, January 15 (HS): US President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed an important order on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Through this, the construction of infrastructure required for advanced AI in the US, such as large-scale data centers and new clean energy facilities, is to be ensured.

This executive order states that the Departments of Defense and Energy will identify places where private companies can build AI data centers. Apart from this, these companies have been asked to ensure that they produce enough clean energy for their data centers.

In a statement, Biden said that AI will have a profound impact on national security and if used responsibly, it will have enormous potential to improve the lives of Americans. This will do everything from treating diseases to reducing the effects of climate change and keeping communities safe.

The US President further said that 'We cannot take our lead on the issue of AI lightly. We will not let America be weak when it comes to the technology that defines the future. Nor should we sacrifice important environmental standards and our shared efforts to protect clean air and clean water.'

Under the new rules, the Defense and Energy departments will each identify at least three sites where the private sector can build AI data centers. Senior administration officials said the agencies would run competitive requests from private companies to build AI data centers on those federal sites.
