Mumbai, 14 Jan (HS): The Maharashtra Government has
given ₹3.08 crore to Anandvan Maharogi Seva Samiti, established by social
worker Baba Amte in Warora, Chandrapur district.
The organisation’s Leprosy
Eradication and Rehabilitation of Patients project has been given ₹1.56
crore, while the project for the Deaf and Dumb and Orthopaedically Handicapped
has been given ₹1.22 crore. The orders to disburse the money were issued by
the Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The process for the transfer of the money was completed immediately.
The organisation was set up by Baba Amte and Sadhana
Amte 75 years ago and was facing financial problems. The problems faced by the
project which is celebrating the diamond jubilee year, was brought to the
notice of Pawar by Secretary Dr Vikas Amte. About 1,500 cured leprosy persons,
persons with disabilities, and the aged, separated and mentally challenged people
are being taken care in the project.
