New Delhi, 10 January (H.S.): Mumbai's legendary cricketers and former captains of the Indian team will join the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Wankhede Stadium on January 19.

According to the MCA press release, these events will begin on January 12 and a grand main event will be held on January 19, which will make for an exciting evening for the fans.

Mumbai legends, former and current Indian cricket captains - including Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Shastri, Ajinkya Rahane, Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji - will unite to celebrate the historic significance of the Wankhede Stadium. The celebration promises to honor the important role of the stadium in the legacy of the game.

The main event will also feature Mumbai's legendary men and women players from both domestic and international cricket.

The evening will be hosted by the talented Mandira Bedi and Prasanna Sant, who will guide the audience through a series of captivating performances. The event will also feature performances by renowned artists Avadhoot Gupte and Ajay-Atul, along with a laser show.

Speaking on the occasion, MCA President Ajinkya Naik said, As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Wankhede Stadium, I warmly invite all cricket fans to be a part of this momentous occasion. Our greatest heroes will join us in this celebration, and together we will pay tribute to the rich heritage of the Wankhede Stadium that is the pride of Mumbai. Let's make this celebration truly unforgettable.

As a part of the celebrations, MCA office-bearers and Apex Council members will release a coffee table book on January 19. A commemorative postage stamp will also be released to honour the iconic legacy of the Wankhede Stadium.

During the celebration week, the MCA will organise a cricket match between MCA officials, and consuls general and bureaucrats on January 12.

Celebrating the contribution and commitment of the unsung heroes of Mumbai cricket, groundsmen of the MCA's clubs and grounds will be felicitated and will organise a Polly Umrigar health camp and special luncheon for them on January 15, followed by felicitation of members of the Mumbai team that played the first first-class match at the Wankhede Stadium in 1974.

Tickets for the grand show scheduled on January 19, 2025, are available on District by Zomato and Insider.in. Tickets starting at Rs 300 will provide fans an opportunity to be a part of the historic celebration and witness an exciting evening.
