New Delhi, 20 September (H.S.):
Dalal Street had a fun ride on Friday as indices hit a record high. During the trade, BSE Sensex hit at 84,694; whereas as NSE Nifty set a record crossing 25,750
mark for the first time and touched 25,849.
At close, the Sensex was up 1,359 points
or 1.63 percent at 84,544 and the Nifty was up 375 points or 1.48 percent at
25,791. For the week, both the benchmarks rose two percent each. Broader markets,
BSE midcap and smallcap indices, rose one percent each. The overall market
capitalisation (mcap) of BSE-listed firms rose to nearly ₹469 lakh crore. For
the 10th time this year, Sensex closed with gains of over 1,000 points.
All the sectoral indices ended in the
green with auto, bank, capital goods, healthcare, FMCG, power, telecom, metal
and realty rising 1-3 percent. Biggest gainers on the Nifty were M&M, ICICI
Bank, JSW Steel, Bharti Airtel and L&T, while losers included Grasim
Industries, SBI, IndusInd Bank, TCS and Bajaj Finance.
Among sectoral toppers were Nifty Auto, Nifty
Bank and Nifty Financial Services which ended with an uptick of 1.9%, 1.4% and
1.6%, respectively. The only laggard out of the 16 Nifty sectoral indices was
Nifty PSU Bank which closed with minor declines of 0.1%.
