New Delhi, 16 September (H.S.)

Domestic benchmark indices are trading positive. Sensex and Nifty were largely flat by noon after briefly touching record highs soon after the opening bell. Gains in telecom, power, construction, and metal stocks helped offset losses, while FMCG stocks led the laggards.

Both the indices surged about 0.16 percent with the Sensex trading up 130 points to 83,021 and Nifty at 25,398, with a gain of 41 points, a short while ago. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices are trading flat.

Investors are closely watching the upcoming Federal Reserve's September 17-18 FOMC meeting, where many expect the first interest rate cut since 2020. The expectations of a 50-basis-point rate cut by the Federal Reserve have surged to 59 percent, up from 30 percent just a week ago.
