Bolpur, July 5 (HS): An attempt was made to burn three members of a family to death while they were sleeping in Natun Geet village of Raipur Supur Gram Panchayat under Bolpur police station in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Thursday night. Two people died in this incident while one is battling for life in hospital.

Notably, Sheikh Tuta and his wife Rupa Bibi are residents of Natun Geet village. The couple has two sons. Their names are Ayan Sheikh and Sheikh Raj. After having dinner on Thursday night, the couple went to sleep with their younger son. The window was open. Allegedly someone sprinkled kerosene in the house through the window and set it on fire. As soon as the flames rose, there was screaming and shouting.

All three people were taken out from inside the house and rushed to Bolpur Government Hospital. When their condition deteriorated, they were taken to Burdwan Hospital where the youngest son Ayan died first. Later, father Sheikh Tuta died. Mother Rupa Bibi is still battling death in the hospital. However, till the time of filing of the news, it was not clear who were behind this incident and why they did this. The police of Bolpur police station were investigating the matter.
