Guwahati, 26 July (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that Assam has come in the category of top five fastest developing states of the country. The Chief Minister was addressing a press conference here today.

He said that the credit for the progress of the state goes to various developmental policies implemented by the government.

The Chief Minister said that according to the Economic Survey, the bank deposits of the state in the year 2021 were ₹ 1.71 lakh crore. Whereas, in the year 2023-24 it increased to ₹ 2.24 lakh crore. Thus within three years, there has been an increase of 30 % in the deposits in the banks which is an indicator of a big economic development.

He said that according to the Economic Survey, in the year 2021, banks had given a loan of ₹ 80,871 crore to Assam. Whereas, in the year 2024, it has increased to ₹ 1.27 lakh crore.

The Chief Minister said that the traditional C/D ratio (credit/deposit) of Assam was 32 percent. Now it has increased to 58 percent.

Speaking on the unemployment rate, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that in the year 2022-23, the unemployment rate was 8 percent, which has now come down to 6.1 percent.
