Four accused of rape and murder evicted


Goalpara (Assam), 30 June (HS): Houses of four accused of rape and murder were demolished in Tangabari of Dudhnai on Sunday. It is noteworthy that on May 3, three youths of Tangabari of the district raped two teenage girls. After that, they were beaten up on May 5. Hiranmay Khakhlari, who was seriously injured in the assault, died in a hospital in Guwahati on May 17.

The police arrested the main accused of the rape case Dhan Ali, Bahar Ali, Rehman Ali, Sheikhwar Ali, Sonia Begum and Ramzan Ali and sent them to jail.

Meanwhile, various social organizations led by All Bodo Students union (ABSU) protested against the incident and demanded immediate action against the culprits and punishment and compensation to the families of the victims. After about two months, Assam government ministers Urkhao Gaura Brahma and Jayant Mallabarua met the families of the victims.

After the ministers'' visit, the Goalpara district administration ordered the demolition of illegally constructed houses of all the accused in Tangabari. The administration said that the houses of all the accused, including the main accused Dhan Ali Talukdar, were built on government land. This drive will continue in a phased manner.
