EC Takes Stand Against Divide and Conquer Tactics in Politics

Delhi, 22 May (H.S): The Election Commission has taken a strong stance against the use of caste, community, language, and religious lines in political campaigning and has urged the BJP and Congress to desist from such tactics. The commission emphasized that the diverse socio-cultural fabric of India should not become a casualty to election campaigns.

This warning comes after the poll watchdog rejected the defence of BJP President J P Nadda and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in response to notices issued regarding their potentially divisive speeches. The EC also instructed both parties to ensure that their star campaigners and candidates refrain from making statements that could divide society or give false impressions about the Constitution or the armed forces.

It has called on the party presidents to issue formal notes to their campaigners to maintain decorum, exercise caution, and correct their discourse. This timely intervention by the Election Commission serves as a reminder to all political parties to focus on issues that truly matter and promote unity rather than division in the lead up to elections.
