Etawah, 27 April (HS): Police stated on Saturday that a 55-year-old mother and her son died after reportedly swallowing a deadly drug due to financial concerns. Deepak Kumar alias Deepu Soni (28) and his mother Suman Devi (55) took a toxic chemical mixed with soft drink at their home in Nai Basti Sai Colony on Friday night, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Abhay Nath Tripathi.

Suman Devi's daughter contacted her this morning to inquire about their well-being, and when the phone went unanswered, she notified the neighbours, according to police.

After failing to receive a response, the neighbours contacted the police. Station in-charge Bhimsen Pauniya arrived at the scene and smashed down the house's door to discover the victims in a room, according to reports.

A soft drink bottle and an empty sulfas bottle were also discovered nearby, they claimed.

According to family members, Suman Devi and Deepak were having financial difficulties.

According to neighbours, Suman Devi's husband died in January. Deepak supported the family after his death by selling garments on the pavement. The ASP also mentioned that his father had taken out a loan to build the property.
