ECI issues notice to BJP, Cong on controversial statements

New Delhi, April 25 (HS): Acting on complaints of code of conduct violation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission has issued notices to the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, respectively. The Commission says that as star campaigners, the leaders not only have their own responsibilities but the party also has responsibilities.

The Election Commission has issued notices to the presidents of both the parties, JP Nadda of BJP and Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress, seeking clarification on the statements of their star campaigners by April 29.

The Commission has instructed the presidents of both the parties to make their star campaigners meditate on the Model Code of Conduct.

It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister had given a statement in Banswara on 21 April. In this, he had said that the money earned by the people will be given to the infiltrators. On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had said in Kottayam, Kerala that BJP is talking about one country, one language and one religion.
