Darang (Assam), 29 December (HS): Farmers in Kharupetia of the Darrang district are worried due to the sudden fall in the prices of fresh vegetables. Farmers are saying that they are not even getting the fare to bring the vegetables from the field to the market. Many farmers are forced to throw away their vegetables.

Farmers of Kharupetia bring their fresh vegetables to Balugaon wholesale market to sell, but due to lack of buyers in the market, they have to sell vegetables at very low prices. A farmer said that the cauliflower crop has become worthless in the market. Hundreds of farmers of the area have brought their vegetables to the market, but they are looking frustrated due to not being able to sell their vegetables in the market. While cauliflower, cabbage, etc. are being sold at the rate of ₹30 to ₹40 per kilogram in various markets of Assam, farmers are waiting for customers at Kharupetia's Balugaon wholesale vegetable market at ₹2 and ₹3 per kilogram.
