West Burdwan, 21 December (H.S.): The New Steel Park crossing of Durgapur in West Burdwan district turned into a battlefield on Saturday after a woman's death in a road accident. Even after about two hours, the local people continued to protest by blocking the road. They alleged that a tractor started running at a high speed to escape from the police. At the same time, it crushed the woman. The woman was declared dead on reaching the hospital.

The deceased woman has been identified as Ranet Parveen (25). Ranet along with her husband Sheikh Sabir had taken their child to the doctor on Saturday morning. They were returning home to New Steel Park area on a bike. They were standing on the side of the road to cross the road at crossing. Then suddenly the tractor went out of control and hit the bike. Ranet was taken to Durgapur Government Hospital in a critical condition and doctors declared her dead. Ranet's husband and her child were seriously injured in this incident.

After that, local people started protesting. It is alleged that a temporary police camp was vandalized. The local people also pelted stones at the police. On informed, a large number of police forces reached the spot. At present, the situation is under control.
