New Delhi, November 14 (HS): For the first time in the history of the national capital Delhi, Delhi Deepotsav-2024 was organized on Wednesday at Vasudev Ghat of Yamuna river located at Kashmiri Gate. The ghat was illuminated with the light of 3.51 lakh diyas. A wonderful confluence of light and faith was visible in the event. Laser and drone shows added to its grandeur. Delhi Development Authority organized it under the guidance of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on the occasion of Dev Deepawali, Guru Parv and 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda. Saxena lit the diya and floated it in the Yamuna river. During this, he performed Yamuna Aarti. The sky lit up with the figure of Jai Shri Ram emerging in the laser and drone show. A grand and divine Ram Darbar was also established in the Baradari of Vasudev Ghat.
Deputy Governor Saxena said that Deepotsav is going to be the first such festival of Delhi, whose objective is not only to make Delhiites aware of Yamuna but also to bring them closer to it and adopt it. Yamuna is the identity of Delhi and its people. It is not only its right to flow clean and pure but it is also the responsibility of Delhiites to contribute to it. Yamuna is worshipable. Like all rivers, Yamuna has also given life to Delhi. Today it has become such a problem that it is compared to a dirty drain. It seems that the will to clean it has ended. There is neither attachment nor duty towards Yamuna. It was not possible to come here two years ago, but today we are enjoying Deepotsav.
Congratulating the Delhi Development Authority, he said that a grand bank was built within one and a half to two years. There was a desire to develop the ghat like Banaras. Now Aarti is being performed twice a week. People sit on the banks of Yamuna. This Deepotsav is not a small festival. Delhi is the capital of the country. Such festivals should be held every week. The people of Delhi should be connected to it. This ghat will become a heritage of prosperity for the country. He said that next year this festival will be illuminated with five lakh diyas.
