New Delhi, October 9 (HS). On the occasion of World Post Day, the Department of Posts of the Central Government on Wednesday released a special set of commemorative postage stamps to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Vandita Kaul, Secretary, Department of Posts, released these stamps during a function organized at Meghdoot Bhawan, New Delhi. The Ministry of Communications gave this information today.

Established on October 9, 1874 in Bern, Switzerland, the UPU is the cornerstone of modern postal cooperation and India is one of its oldest and most active members. The UPU has played a very important role in standardizing international postal regulations, ensuring seamless mail exchange between its 192 member countries and making postal services accessible to all.

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia sent his message on this occasion, in which he said, 'It is a matter of great pride that on World Post Day, the Department of Posts, Government of India has released a special set of commemorative postage stamps to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The UPU has played a vital role in shaping a world where communication has no boundaries.

Scindia further said in his message, With these stamps we honor India's shared commitment to innovation and inclusiveness and reaffirm the role of the Indian Postal Department as a vital link in the global postal network. Let us all continue to reduce distances, unite communities and promote communication between nations.

On this occasion, Kaul said, The legacy of the UPU in promoting global cooperation in postal services is invaluable. India's active participation in UPU initiatives and our efforts to modernise postal services through digital advancements and e-commerce have enhanced India's position in the global postal landscape.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, this year's celebration of World Post Day is particularly significant as India Post marks its 170th year of service to the nation. From urban centres to remote villages, India Post has been playing a vital role in providing essential services and connecting people across the country.

The set of three commemorative stamps released today reflect India's strong ties with the UPU and symbolize shared values ​​of collaboration, innovation and inclusiveness. These stamps highlight the vital role of postal services in bridging gaps, facilitating communication and connecting people across the world.

With the world's largest postal network, the Department of Posts is in sync with the mission of the UPU and is modernising its services and contributing to the development of postal infrastructure across the world.
