Bhubaneswar, 30 October (H.S.): Bibhisan Behera, a retired Senior Clerk formerly in charge at Thakurmunda Community Health Center (CHC) in Mayurbhanj, was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada. Behera, who was charged in 2018 under the Prevention of Corruption Act (Sections 13(2), 13(1)(d), and 7), was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe from a staff member to forward her Earned Leave (E.L.) application and service book to the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Mayurbhanj.
Along with the prison sentence, Behera has been fined Rs. 10,000. Following the court's ruling, Behera was taken into custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will also initiate proceedings to stop Behera’s pension following this conviction. This ruling marks a significant step in Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and promote integrity in public services.
