Guwahati, 13 October (HS): Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardev's Avirbhav Tithi has been celebrated in various parts of the state since Saturday. At the same time, Shankardev Tithi is being celebrated in many parts even today. According to the list of government holidays, Sunday i.e. October 13 has been declared a government holiday on Srimanta Shankardev's birth anniversary. Therefore, due to Srimanta Shankardev's birth anniversary being October 13, the sale of liquor in the state remained closed today. Dry day was declared today by the Excise Department.

It is worth mentioning that in Assam, dry day is declared on 26 January, 15 August, 2 October and on the date of Srimanta Shankardev's Avirbhav Tithi. If apart from these, dry day has to be declared in the state due to any special reason, then the state government issues extra notification.
