- Granting classical language status to Assamese is a historic achievement: CM

Guwahati, 13 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that to commemorate the granting of 'classical language' status to Assamese language, the State is going to celebrate this achievement by observing 'Bhasha Gaurav Week' from November 3 to 9.

Dr. Sarma gave this information through his social media handle here on Sunday and said that the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially recognised Assamese as a classical language. To celebrate this historic achievement, Assam will celebrate 'Bhasha Gaurav Week'.

The Chief Minister said, As a part of Bhasha Gaurav Week, universities, schools and civil society organisations will organise special programs to honour the contribution of Assamese writers and scholars whose work has shaped the language since the fourth century. The celebration of the week will also give the people of Assam an opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to Modi for this important step towards the cultural and linguistic heritage of Assam. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma sought cooperation from all sections of the people of the state to make the celebration of 'Bhasha Gaurav Saptah' a success.
