Guwahati, 1 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that he is in regular touch with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get the Assamese language recognized as a classical language.

Through social media on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said, We are in regular touch with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government to recognize Assamese language as a classical language. This proposal has been sent to the Center as per the recommendations of the report of the retired Justice Biplab Sharma Committee. This will help in giving a special place to the Assamese language. I am sure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will consider our request.
