Bhubaneswar, 1 October (H.S.): Food Safety Officer Bibhas Mazumdar posted in the office of Chief District Medical Officer, Kendrapara, was caught red-handed by vigilance officials while accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a local businessman for issuance of a license.
“The accused Mazumdar had conducted a surprise raid at the properties of the Poly Traders Shop owner on August 8 and instructed him to apply for a license. However, Mazumdar demanded ₹5,000 to issue the license. Feeling harassed, the complainant reported the incident to the Vigilance department. ” said a release issued by vigilance
“Accordingly, a trap was laid and Mazumdar was apprehended while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in front of Akhandalamani Marble shop from the complainant to issue him a license to run his business. The entire amount was recovered, and searches are underway at Mazumdar’s locations.A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. ”, the release further said.
