Six Volcanoes Erupt Simultaneously Across Indonesia

JAKARTA, September 7 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Six volcanoes are erupting simultaneously in various parts of Indonesia, according to data from the country's Interior Ministry, Transportation Ministry and geological agency seen by RIA Novosti.

Activity at all six volcanoes, namely Anak Krakatau, Semeru, Mount Ibu, Lewotobi Laki-laki, Lewotolok and Sinabung, has been observed almost simultaneously since August 31, the Interior Ministry said.

The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geohazard Mitigation (PVMBG) said that the volcanoes erupted independently, as each volcano has its own magma system.

On Sunday, Semeru again sent a column of ash about one kilometer (0.62 miles) into the air, while Anak Krakatau also remained active.

Anak Krakatau, Semeru, Mount Ibu, Lewotobi Laki-laki and Sinabung have been assigned alert level three on Indonesia's four-level scale, with level four being the highest. Lewotolok is at alert level two.
