Australia Stands with Nepal During This Difficult Time

Kathmandu, September 07 (H.S.): Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating floods in Nepal, saying that Australia stands with Nepal during this difficult period.

Addressing the Australian Parliament, Albanese said that 36 Australian citizens remained unaccounted for following the disaster. He expressed his condolences to the families and relatives of those who remain missing and voiced hope that they would be located and brought to safety at the earliest.

As Nepal observed a national day of mourning on Monday in memory of those who lost their lives in the disaster, Albanese also expressed his condolences through a social media post to the bereaved families and all those affected by the floods.

Albanese had also spoken by telephone with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah last Friday. During their conversation, the two leaders discussed the situation in the aftermath of the disaster. Albanese said the Australian government was also maintaining close coordination with the Nepali, Tibetan and Indian communities living in Australia as part of efforts to respond to the crisis.
