MOSCOW, September 29 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The defense ministries of Russia and Mongolia have signed a strategic partnership plan in the military sphere for 2027-2031, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Vasily Osmakov arrived in Mongolia for a working visit. He held a bilateral meeting with Mongolia's Deputy Defense Minister, Maj. Gen. Baasandamba Dashtseden.

Following the meeting, the parties signed the Russian-Mongolian strategic partnership plan in the military sphere for the 2027-2031 period, aimed at establishing a systematic and long-term basis for cooperation between the two countries' defense ministries, the statement says.

Osmakov emphasized that the parties were moving toward a systematic and long-term model of cooperation. His Mongolian counterpart noted that the results of years of military cooperation between the two nations were a key factor behind the current achievements of Mongolian military personnel.

With the support of Russia, its people, and its military personnel, the modernization of Mongolian forces was successfully carried out, laying the foundation for an army that meets modern requirements, the Russian Defense Ministry quoted Baasandamba as saying.

Osmakov also held talks with Mongolian Defense Minister Dambyn Batlut.

The regular dialogue between the heads of our states lends particular intensity and significance to our relations. I fully share your assessment regarding the high level of our military cooperation, Osmakov said.

He added that the general staffs of the Russian and Mongolian armies had established strong ties, with steady cooperation underway between specific military branches, border military districts, and military educational institutions. The Mongolian defense minister emphasized that Russia held a vitally important place in the country's foreign policy.

Relations between our countries are developing steadily, grounded in long-standing historical traditions, the friendship of our peoples, mutual respect, trust, and the principles of good-neighborliness, Batlut said.

In addition, the Russian deputy defense minister met with the chief of the general staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Ganbyamba Sunrev. Osmakov highly commended the progress made in implementing the agreements reached following Ganbyamba's official visit to Moscow in April 2026.

According to Osmakov, the exchange of military delegations was actively expanding, and joint operational and combat training activities were being successfully conducted.

For his part, Ganbyamba noted that defense and military-technical cooperation between the two nations had been continuously deepening in recent years, and described the Russian deputy minister's visit as a historic event that elevated military-technical cooperation between Mongolia and Russia to a new level.
