Kathmandu, 29 September (H.S.): Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath held a meeting in New York on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Foreign Minister Khanal’s Secretariat, the two ministers held a bilateral meeting on the margins of the General Assembly. The discussions focused on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, Minister Khanal expressed gratitude for Sri Lanka’s sympathy and solidarity with communities affected by the devastating climate-induced disaster that recently struck Nepal. He also thanked the Government and people of Sri Lanka for providing economic and humanitarian assistance.

The two ministers exchanged views on various aspects of the friendly and cooperative relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka.

They emphasized the need to convene meetings of existing bilateral mechanisms. They also expressed their commitment to further expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, tourism, education, culture, connectivity and people-to-people relations.
