Kathmandu, 29 September (H.S.): A total of 637 mountaineers belonging to 68 teams have been granted permission to climb 18 different mountains in Nepal for the 2026 autumn mountaineering season.

According to the Department of Tourism, the mountaineers who have received permits include 474 men and 163 women. The department has collected Nepalese Rs 238.5 million in royalties from the climbers.

According to Suraj Ghimire, Information Officer at the Department of Tourism, 43 teams comprising 500 mountaineers have received permission to climb Mount Manaslu, making it the most sought-after peak this season. The department has collected Nepalese Rs 225.8 million in royalties from climbers attempting Manaslu. Similarly, 34 mountaineers have been granted permits for Dhaulagiri I, 20 for Putha Hiunchuli, 16 for Danga Hiunchuli and 10 for Baruntse.

In addition, the Department of Tourism has granted climbing permits for several other peaks, including Makalu, Gangapurna West, Thorong Peak, Annapurna IV, Pumori and Thapa Peak (Dhampus).

Autumn is regarded as one of Nepal’s major mountaineering seasons, attracting large numbers of climbers from different countries who arrive to undertake expeditions to peaks across the Himalayas.
