Kathmandu, 27 September (H.S.): Severe flooding in the Kaligandaki River has caused extensive destruction in Jaljala of Nepal’s Parbat district, with nearly two dozen houses reportedly swept away by the floodwaters.

According to local representative Hirvikas Jisi, the flow of floodwaters in the Kaligandaki River continues to rise. As a result, the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed. Efforts are underway to evacuate residents of the flood-affected villages to safer locations. Consequently, a comprehensive assessment of the losses is not yet available.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Parbat, Ganesh Kumar Paudel, also confirmed that authorities had received reports of several houses being swept away by flooding in the Kaligandaki River in the Jaljala area. He said the river has witnessed its highest flood discharge to date.

Paudel added that reports had been received of several houses being washed away in the flooding in Jaljala, and police teams have been deployed to the flood-affected areas to assist with the response and evacuation efforts.
