Kathmandu, 27 September (H.S.): Former Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court Cholendra Shumsher Rana has been released from police custody. Police released him on Sunday afternoon and moved him to a ‘safe’ location, according to officials. Kathmandu Crime Branch SP Rameshwar Karki said that Rana had been taken to a safe place. However, police have not disclosed where exactly he was taken.

Earlier, at around 2 am on Sunday, police took Rana into their custody from his residence in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. He remained under police control for more than 11 hours.

A police team from the Kathmandu Crime Branch had arrived at his residence to take him into custody. Police had said that he was being brought to the office as a security precaution.

Crime Branch SSP Santosh Khadka had said that Rana was brought to the office for security reasons after various rumours concerning him were circulated in a ‘Discord group’.
