Kathmandu, 27 September (H.S.): Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting focused on further strengthening relations between the two countries and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, held at the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations, Foreign Minister Khanal expressed gratitude to the UAE government and its people for their solidarity and condolences with communities affected by the devastating climate-induced floods in Nepal. He also thanked the UAE for the significant humanitarian assistance extended to people affected by the floods.

Khanal particularly welcomed and expressed appreciation for the UAE’s new commitment to provide an additional US$25 million in financial assistance to support communities affected by the floods.

The two leaders held constructive discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest. They emphasised the need to expand cooperation in areas of mutual benefit and further strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and the UAE.

During the meeting, labour, trade, investment, tourism, renewable energy, connectivity and multilateral cooperation under the United Nations were identified as key areas of cooperation. Both sides agreed on the importance of advancing collaboration in these sectors and further broadening Nepal-UAE relations.
