Washington, 25 September (H.S.): Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with US President Donald J. Trump at the White House on September 24, with the two leaders discussing bilateral ties, economic and trade cooperation, artificial intelligence and major international and regional issues, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Xi said his and Trump's exchange of visits in less than six months was unprecedented in the history of China-US relations. He said the two sides should translate their shared vision of a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability into action, with cooperation as the mainstay, competition kept within proper limits and differences managed through dialogue.

The Chinese President said the latest round of economic and trade consultations had resulted in a new joint arrangement, describing it as positive for industries and people in both countries and for the global economy. He called for continued efforts based on equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit to promote stable development of bilateral economic and trade ties.

AI cooperation also figured prominently in the talks. Xi said China and the United States have strong AI capabilities and could cooperate while maintaining competition. He called for continued dialogue on the risks and benefits of AI, joint efforts to prevent its misuse and the principle that AI should remain under human control.

Xi also reiterated China's position on national reunification and territorial integrity and urged the US side to oppose Taiwan independence and handle the Taiwan question with caution.

Trump described Xi's state visit as a great visit and said the United States and China are great nations. He said the two countries should continue economic and trade dialogue and seek an improved deal. Trump also said AI concerns the future of humanity and called for continued US-China dialogue and cooperation in the field.

The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, the Ukraine crisis and the Korean Peninsula. They also agreed to support each other in hosting the 2026 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the G20 Summit.

Chinese officials Cai Qi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng, among others, attended the talks.
