Kathmandu, 25 September (H.S.): Nepal and Namibia have formally established diplomatic relations, taking the total number of countries with which Nepal maintains diplomatic ties to 187.

Nepal Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries in New York, where they are attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Before signing the communiqué, the two Foreign Ministers held discussions on various issues of mutual interest. According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting also covered the humanitarian and material losses caused by the devastating climate-related disaster that recently struck Nepal.

The two Ministers emphasised the need to explore new avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation between Nepal and Namibia. They said mutual cooperation should be further strengthened to promote shared progress and prosperity for the two countries and their peoples.
