MOSCOW, September 24 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The situation around the Iranian nuclear problem is disheartening because the West is neither looking for a solution nor letting other countries propose one, Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said on Thursday.

The United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany submitted a resolution in early September that referred Iran to the UN Security Council over alleged violations of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations.

I think this is a completely shameful resolution. The situation with Iran is very serious and needs to be seriously addressed, but our Western partners cannot do it themselves and are not letting others do so, he told reporters at the Rossiya Segodnya media group's multimedia press center.

Ulyanov said he hoped that a negotiated solution would be found, although he admitted that chances were very slim.

The IAEA Board of Governors discussed IAEA safeguards and the Iranian nuclear program at a session in Vienna from September 7-11. The US and Israel struck Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025 and during the latest military campaign that began in late February 2026.
