MOSCOW, September 24 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Politicians in the United States and the European Union are privately considering the possibility of artificially dimming the Sun using solar geoengineering to combat global warming, Politico reported, citing two former government officials.

Environmentalists oppose such technologies due to their potential to damage the ozone layer and alter weather patterns, the report said on Wednesday.

In addition, the newspaper noted that geoengineering interventions are unable to address the main drivers of global warming, specifically the burning of oil, gas, and coal.

However, the report said, citing an expert in such technologies, that with the increase in investment in solar geoengineering startups, the question of the possibility of artificially dimming the Sun is becoming increasingly relevant.
