Kathmandu, 24 September (H.S.): Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has sought Germany’s support for the restoration, rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas affected by the recent floods.

During a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York, Minister Khanal held discussions with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali Radovan. He stressed the need for additional investment not only in post-disaster reconstruction but also in climate resilience, disaster preparedness and capacity building.

Foreign Minister Khanal appreciated Germany’s longstanding and significant support for Nepal’s development efforts. He emphasised that addressing the challenges posed by climate change is a shared responsibility of the entire international community.

Radovan described the devastating disaster that recently struck Nepal as a common global challenge and said Germany remained committed to providing financial and humanitarian assistance to Nepal.

The meeting also covered various aspects of bilateral relations between Nepal and Germany. Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening and deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest in the days ahead.
