MOSCOW, September 23 (HS/RIA Novosti) - US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker dismissed suggestions that Russia poses a threat to the alliance and urged caution in responding to hybrid activity.

Whitaker said that Russia does not seek conflict with NATO and the recent incidents involving drones entering NATO airspace were accidental, resulting from actions taken by both sides of the Ukraine conflict.

I don't think that it's in anybody's interest to head towards the conflict. I think one of the things that we have to be very careful of is overreacting to any sort of hybrid activity, Whitaker said in an interview with Associated Press.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously explained in detail, during an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, that Russia had no intention of attacking NATO states, as doing so would make no sense. Putin noted that Western politicians regularly frightened their people with an imaginary Russian threat to distract attention from domestic problems, yet smart people understand perfectly well that this is a fake.
