TEHRAN, September 20 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Iran will not consider reopening the Strait of Hormuz until the United States fulfills its commitments and Tehran's conditions are met, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament and chief negotiator with the US, said on Sunday.

On Saturday, Iranian Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei said that Iran had presented the US with seven conditions for the start of negotiations between the two countries.

Until these conditions are met, the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation are recognized and the US commitments are fulfilled, it will be impossible to return to the previous negotiation conditions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Ghalibaf was quoted as saying by the Iranian state television and radio company.

On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, to which Iran responded with its own strikes. In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum to cease hostilities, but shortly thereafter exchanged strikes again. At present, the conflict remains unresolved, but the parties are not engaged in active combat, with the US relying on economic pressure.
