New York, 02 September (H.S.): Students of New York City Public Schools, the largest school district in the United States, will return to classrooms next week as the new academic session begins. New York City Public Schools has announced that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) will be prohibited for more than 500,000 students and teachers during the 2026-27 academic session.

According to an ABC News report, New York City Public Schools has announced that a complete ban on AI will come into effect from next week for children from pre-school through middle school, covering kindergarten to Grade 8. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that generative AI is set to be banned for schoolchildren across the city. He added that its impact would be studied next year.

The development comes at a time when some people are calling for regulations and formal guidelines governing the use of AI. Approximately 1.1 million students are enrolled in New York City Public Schools, making it the largest school district in the United States. Los Angeles Unified School District ranks second on the list.
