Kathmandu, 19 September (H.S.): Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that his government is fully committed to the Constitution.

Addressing the main ceremony organised on the occasion of Constitution Day, Prime Minister Shah said, “This government is fully committed to both the letter and the spirit of the Constitution.”

He said that no matter how good a constitution may be, if the hands entrusted with implementing it are not honest and consistently active, it will remain merely a piece of paper.

He claimed that the government is working to establish good governance and curb corruption. “I state this clearly: this is only the beginning, not the end. The roots of corruption and impunity run deep, but the hands capable of uprooting these roots are strong and greater in number,” he said.

He further said, “The government is conscious of the fact that good governance is an essential prerequisite for development.”

He said that, in order to maintain good governance, the government has adopted measures to determine an appropriate size for the administrative structure and implemented a policy of “zero tolerance” towards corruption.
